This weekend London 2012 saw the fastest man alive take to
the track as Usain Bolt competed in the 100m final. It is believed that 2
billion people from all around the world watched the Jamaican take Gold,
although Americans had to wait a little longer to see it as NBC decided not to
show the event live but wait until prime time which has proved unpopular with
US Olympic fans.
Bolt took home the gold in 9.63 seconds which was an Olympic
record time, ahead of fellow Jamaican Blake who achieved a personal best of
9.75 with US star Gatlin coming in at 9.79, which was again a personal best for
him. Bolt’s run was the second fastest time in the 100m sprint of all time and
millions of Brits tuned in to see it happen at London 2012.
He said that his start out of the blocks wasn’t his best and
his reaction time wasn’t the best but his coach had told him not to worry about
it as it’s the end where Bolt shines. This certainly proved true as he finished
first, with all bar one of the other competitors also coming in at under
10secs. Since before the event he had also commented that he was only 95%,
people were discussing the possibility that Blake could have taken gold but
Usain made sure there was no chance of that.
Have a look at the final standings for the 100m sprint at
London 2012 below. These guys certainly don’t need more time with this kind of
speed!
