The Dark Side of Twitter

From telephone calls, to texting to Twitter, there are many different ways to communicate with people and the digital age and dawn of the social web has made it easier than ever to communicate with anybody, including famous stars.

Whether this is a good thing is up for debate though as no matter how many fans a celebrity has, there will always be a small minority that seem to be vocal in their dislike for someone. There have been two instances of the dark side of Twitter this week. The first relates to teen Team GB diver Tom Daley who cruelly received a tweet saying that his deceased father would be disappointed he didn’t win gold. The youngster responsible for the tweet was given a warning from the police and rightly so. There is no need to purposely set out to cause pain to another and use Twitter as a way to hide.

The other is still Olympics related but a little more mysterious as presenter Helen Skelton reported she is leaving Twitter as she is not thick skinned enough, but there is no concrete reason for why. Her profile is now closed and no longer available after she left a goodbye tweet.
