Here’s a continued look at different sayings that use the
word ‘time’.
Need more time – web definition: wishing for more hours within the day.
I’m
sure we’ve all uttered the sentence ‘I need
more time’ at some point in our lives. Whether it’s for social or work
reasons, we all could do with them extra hours in the day to get something done
or just to relax.
Third time is a charm
– web definition: after two failures in any endeavour, a third attempt is more likely to succeed.
This refers to the idea that having a third attempt at something that you’ve
failed at for the first and second attempt will lead to success. It can also be
reversed and viewed that the third person to attempt something naughty will get
caught
High time – web definition: the latest possible moment; "it is high time you went to work".
Something
that should have been done a long time along is sometimes referred to as being
it’s ‘high time’ it was done. If you have a pain in your arm that’s getting
worse and worse it would be ‘high time’ you went and got it looked at.
Time is of the
essence – web definition: used to express a need for haste in action or response.
When something is very important and needs to be done urgently.
If a report needs to be completed before the weekend and sent out then ‘time is
of the essence’ as there is a set time that the task must be completed by.
