As a business grows there is the need to think about location and premises. It can be easy to immediately think about the living room table, or the spare room for the basis of the business productivity. This can work and be productive but it does require alot of dedication and discipline, especially if there are distractions at home.
The spare room can work as office space, but if you are likely to entertain visitors and potential customers it will not look professional to have a meeting around the living room table, or take them through the house in order to get to the office.
One benefit of working in another place from where you live is that you can install and use totally different phonelines which will save the embarrassment of a family member accidentally answering the business phone. The other option to resolve this is to use a virtual PA service, where a company will answer the phone and take messages in a professional manner. This can be especially useful if you are starting up and need to be on the road generating new business. Messages can be taken without customers having to go through to a voicemail all the time.
